This groovy t-shirt dates back to the 70s and it comes from a place called the "House of Joy." There were tons of establishments with this name during the 70s and it's impossible to know for certain which one this tee references. However, it's likely that it comes from a "nudie" club in San Francisco that was open during the 60s and 70s.

There were several of these kinds of nude bars in San Francisco around this time and, since prostitution was illegal, they operated on a more subtle business model. Men would pay to spend an hour with an undressed woman. The two would usually talk, or touch if she permitted it, but they couldn't have sex. One former employee of the House of Joy, named Candy, said that men found it easier to confess their worries to a stranger, especially a naked one, and that's why so many customers kept coming back for more.
