This vintage ringer is a humorous souvenir from Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay, and it advertises a fake Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary swim team. Nicknamed "The Rock", Alcatraz is one of the most infamous prisons in American history. This maximum security facility was known for housing some of history's most colorful and dastardly criminals, including Al Capone, George "Machine Gun" Kelly, and Robert Stroud, also known as the "Birdman of Alcatraz". Other famous inmates were Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin, who mysteriously disappeared from their cells in June of 1962. The trio had planned an elaborate escape from the penitentiary, however no prisoner has ever reportedly made it past the perilous waters that surround Alcatraz, and many believe the three never made it to the mainland.
