This awesome vintage tee celebrates the Caped Crusader, Batman. This iconic superhero made his debut in an issue of Detective Comics in 1939, and he has been a staple of the DC Comics universe ever since. This shirt is copyright 1988, and judging by the art style, it looks to showcase a graphic from comic book artist, Jim Aparo. In 1988, Aparo illustrated one of the most famous Batman comics of all time, "A Death in the Family". This shocking storyline forever changed DC Comics, as it marked the first time that a central character was killed off in a Batman comic.
This shirt was made during a pivotal time for Batman fans, as the late 80s pushed the beloved character into much darker and grittier territory than what had previously been explored. This new direction was pushed not just by "A Death in the Family", but also the graphic novel, The Killing Joke and Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film.
