This awesome vintage rock tee features a cartoon image of the beloved British rock band the Beatles, dressed as they appear on the album cover for their 1967 studio album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Although this shirt celebrates the 1967 album, it is from 1987 which was the year that Apple Corps and EMI released all of the Beatles' studio albums on CD. This was also the year just before the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during their first year of eligibility.
When Sgt. Pepper was first released in the late 60s, it spent 27 weeks at number one on the UK Record Retailer chart and 15 weeks at the top of the Billboard Top LPs chart in the US. Critics marveled at the record's ability to bridge the gap between popular music and high art, and its release was considered a defining moment in pop culture during the decade. Some of the songs off the album included "With a Little Help from My Friends", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", "When I'm Sixty-Four", and "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite".
The original release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band established the Beatles as leading figures of 1960s youth culture and it helped to usher in the "Summer of Love". Meanwhile the 1987 CD re-release attracted its own significant amount of attention thanks to media interest and the album's feature in the TV documentary It Was Twenty Years Ago Today.
