This amazing tee was made in honor of the 1989 live action Batman film directed by Tim Burton. This shirt showcases the Academy Award-winning actor Jack Nicholson in his scene-stealing role as Batman's arch nemesis, the Joker. While Nicholson was initially hesitant to take on the part, he's since listed the Joker as one of his favorite roles. Nicholson also encouraged his friend and fellow actor Danny DeVito to accept the role of The Penguin in the film's sequel, Batman Returns.
Burton was still a fairly new director when Warner Bros. selected him. to tackle the film. He was chosen based off the financial success of his feature film debut, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, and Batman was greenlit in the wake of Burton's successful follow up, Beetlejuice. Despite skepticism from fans, Burton chose to cast Michael Keaton in the titular role, after the pair worked together on Beetlejuice. Fans were pleasantly surprised to see Keaton capture the brooding tone of the Caped Crusader, but few could deny that Nicholson wound up being the true star of the movie. He had been the studio's top pick for the Clown Prince of Crime, and Nicholson beat out a long list of talented character actors, including Tim Curry, John Lithgow, Brad Dourif, James Woods, and an unfortunately very disheartened Robin Williams.
