This awesome shirt commemorates the 1998 edition of Freaknik, a spring break festival that used to be held annually in Atlanta, Georgia. The festival was known to be particularly popular amongst college students from historically black schools, such as Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, and Morehouse College.

The festival originated as a picnic held near the Atlanta University Center in 1983, but overtime it grew to incorporate a much wider range of events that included dance contests, concerts, a basketball tournament, a film festival, and even a job fair. However by the late 90s, the once beloved celebration for black youth had started to wane in popularity, and the last official Freaknik was held in 1999. One major contributing factor to the festival's downfall was Atlanta officials cracking down on its accessibility. By 1996, local residents and business owners were starting to tire of the excessive partying brought on by the annual event. As a result, Mayor Bill Campbell chose to increase police presence, which put a damper on all the fun.

Regardless, Freaknik remains a beloved piece of black history and culture, and its influence is evidenced by its multiple references in pop culture. This includes a 2010 animated musical spoof about the fest, which  features the voice talents of hip hop stars like Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, T-Pain, and Lil Wayne.
