This amazing hooded tee is from the iconic Spike's Joint store that was opened in Brooklyn in 1990. The shop was created to sell 40 Acres and a Mule branded apparel, in honor of the 40 Acres production company that was founded by Spike Lee and Monty Ross. The company was formed after the pair met while attending mass media courses together at what later came to be known as Clark Atlanta University, and 40 Acres has been responsible for producing all of Lee's theatrical films, starting with the 1986 movie She's Gotta Have It.
Regarded as one of the most notable and important filmmakers of the late 20th century, Spike Lee's films examine race relations and issues within the Black community. They've been praised not only for their provocative subject matter, but also their unique stylistic elements, and Lee's movies have featured breakthrough performances from a number of notable actors that include Laurence Fishburne, Samuel L. Jackson, and Denzel Washington. Spike's Joint was opened the year after the debut of what many consider to be the director's seminal film, the comedy drama Do the Right Thing.
