This awesome vintage tee is a piece of licensed merch celebrating Gilbert Shelton's underground comic, The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. These colorful characters first appeared in an issue of The Rag in the late 60s, and over time they regularly appeared in underground publications throughout the US. Along with Fat Freddy's Cat and Wonder Wart-Hog, the Freak Brothers grew into one of Shelton's most popular cartoon creations.
From 1971 until 1997, The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers appeared in their own eponymous comic, published by Rip Off Comix. The Freak Brothers were a trio of stoners, whose misadventures offered a humorous look at both the 60s counter cultural movement and the socio-political groups that opposed it. This shirt features a graphic of the three titular characters: Freewheelin' Franklin Freek, Phineas T. Phreak, and Fat Freddy Freekowtski.
