This cool vintage find is a campaign tee from the 1976 presidential primary. This was the first presidential election following the Watergate scandal and the subsequent resignation of President Richard Nixon. The scandal had shaken the nation's confidence in the Republican party, which made the Democratic primary a fierce race, as many people believed the Democrats would be poised to take back control of the White House in 1976.

This shirt supports former congressman Mo Udall, who ran as a more liberal alternative to the eventual nominee, Jimmy Carter. Udall only managed to win his home state of Arizona during the primary, but he did come in second at the Democratic National Convention. Although he lost his chance at the Presidency, Udall is remembered fondly for many of his early independent views. During the 60s and 70s, he played a leading role in the fight for environmental protection and the opposition of the Vietnam War.
