This super soft tee was made in the 70s, and it features a sweet iron on decal from the Topps Chewing Gum Company. Founded in 1938, Topps started as a gum company that sold popular brands like Bazooka. In the 1950s, they made the decision to try and up their gum sales by including trading cards in their packaging. Topps employee Sy Berger worked with the cartoonist Woody Gelman to develop the first Topps baseball card set in 1951, and the cards developed into wildly popular collectibles.
The success of the baseball cards inspired Topps to explore other novelty goods, including non-sports related trading cards. Some of their most famous series became Wacky Packages and Garbage Pail Kids, and the company used to regularly employ notable comic artists like Jack Davis, Bill Griffith, Robert Crumb, and Art Spiegelman. This shirt comes from that era of Topps, and it features a quirky space-inspired graphic of an alien throwing up a peace sign gesture with the caption "Peace on Mars".
Fits like a modern unisex adult large. This shirt is soft and thin with light discoloration and a small hole on the back, see pics.
