This amazing tee is a 70s original from Crazy Shirts of Hawaii. While the front is totally blank, the back has a humorous image parodying the spokesman of the US Forest Service's Wildlfire Prevention Campaign, Smokey Bear. Smokey was developed in the 1940s, and his name was inspired by a hero of the New York City Fire Department, "Smokey" Joe Martin. The first forest fire prevention poster featuring Smokey was debuted in October 1944, and it featured an illustration drawn by Albert Staehle.

By the 70s, Smokey had become a well-known figure to the American public, which made him ripe for parody. For most of his tenure, Smokey's slogan was "only you can prevent forest fires", but instead this shirt reads, "burn weeds not trees". The cheeky double meaning of the phrase paired  with the cartoon graphic, offers a sound suggestion about what kind of plant is better for burning.
