This delightful shirt features the famous Hawaiian drinking expression, "Suck 'em up!", which was widely popularized by the Hawaiian pop singer Don Ho. "Suck 'Em Up" became the title of a drinking song that Ho used to regularly perform during his stage shows in the 1960s. The song was written by Kui Lee, a former fire knife dancer that used to work as the doorman at the club Honey's in Kaneohe. Honey's was owned by Don Ho's mother, and he discovered Lee's songwriting talent while working as the club's featured singer.

Both the phrase and the song really took off after Ho performed the number at Duke Kahanamoku's nightclub in Waikiki, and it became the club's signature phrase. It was perhaps most famously seen on the side of the souvenir drinking glasses that they used to serve their mai tai cocktails.
