This awesome shirt features a sweet Polytees graphic with the classic Hawaiian adage, "suck 'um up". Also often spelled as "suck 'em up", this phrase was largely popularized on the islands by the native Hawaiian pop singer, Don Ho and his band The Aliis. "Suck 'Em Up" became the title of a song penned by Kui Lee, and Ho made the tune a regular part of his stage show during the 1960s. Ho had apparently asked Lee to write him a drinking song, and the phrase really took off after he performed it at Duke's, a Waikiki nightclub that belonged to the Olympic swimmer and surf legend, Duke Kahanamoku.

Souvenirs emblazoned with the phrase became standard merchandise at the nightclub, but no item was more popular than the signature "Suck 'Em Up" glass. The 15-ounce glasses were used to serve club patrons one of the most famous tropical drinks of the era, the mai tai.
