This double-sided sweatshirt showcases one of the most prominent figures of the civil rights movement from the mid 20th century, Martin Luther King Jr. The front shows off a portrait of the well-respected activist, while the back includes a portion of his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, which he gave during the March on Washington in 1963. Delivered from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in D.C., Dr. King's speech was considered a defining moment in the civil rights movement, which eventually helped to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Martin Luther King was named after his a father, a baptist minister and early civil rights activist from Georgia, and he followed in his father's footsteps by also taking up the mantle of both preaching and activism. Dr. King primarily focused his efforts towards nonviolent resistance against Jim Crow laws and other instances of racial inequality.
Martin Luther King was the final person to speak at the March on Washington, which was one of the largest political rallies for human rights ever staged with an estimated 250,000 people in attendance. The speech's famous ending, in which King repeatedly states "I have a dream," was actually partially improvised from what he had originally prepared. This portion was prompted by a cry from the crowd made by gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, who yelled, "Tell them about the dream, Martin!"
Fits like a modern unisex youth extra large. There is a small spot on the front, see pics.
