This sweet vintage shirt was made for the 1999 Black Pride celebration held in Washington D.C. Held each year during Memorial Day weekend, Black Pride is an event specifically designed to uplift the African American LGBTQ community. D.C.'s Black Pride was the first event of its kind when it was inaugurated in 1991, and it was created in collaboration with the DC Coalition of Black Lesbians and Gays, as well as the Inner City AIDS Network. DC Black Pride helped to inspire Black Pride Celebrations across the world, and the 1999 event was particularly special, as that was the year that The International Federation of Black Prides was created.
