This awesome tee honors the classic traditional Irish theatrical show Riverdance. Beginning as a Eurovision interval performance, Riverdance became a world wide phenomenon and is often considered the most popular Eurovision interval act in the history of the song contest. Following the positive reception from Eurovision audiences, wife and husband production duo Moya Doherty and John McColgan took Riverdance to the next level and, along with composer Bill Whelan and vocal ensemble Anuna, produced a stage show that opened in Dublin in 1995. "Riverdance: The Show" sold out within three days and the show's eponymous song reached number 1 on the Irish charts. During 1995, the Riverdance troupe performed for the British Monarchy several times on special request.
"Riverdance: The Show" needed to expand its cast in order to perform in more places. In 1996, a touring company was established to perform in the US. The Lee company, named after Cork, Ireland's main river, staged their first performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in 1996. The original company, Liffey, continued touring in the UK. Riverdance continues to be performed world wide with every production company being named after a river in Ireland.
