This cool tee features Izzy, the official mascot of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. This shirt features the character's original name, Whatizit, which was used during its introduction at the closing ceremonies of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. A rather polarizing mascot, Izzy was the first Olympic mascot designed to be something other than a recognizable animal or human figure, and he was also the first ever computer-generated mascot for the Games.
Despite this original approach, many people were not a fan of the little blue character. According to the man credited as Izzy's creator, John Ryan, the final design was actually quite an offshoot from his original concept. Izzy was an attempt to create an Olympic mascot unlike anything that had been used before, but the Atlantic Committee for the Olympic Games pushed for a design that looked more in-line with typical kids' cartoons of the 1990s.
