Punk Week 2016 Day 2 Suicidal Tendencies!

Day 2 of Punk Week here at The Captain's Vintage features the kings of Crossover Thrash Punk Suicidal Tendencies!  Here is the shirt that we recently acquired which was purchased at a show on the east coast in the 80s!

 Suicidal Tendencies T-shirt

Founded in 1980 in Venice California with lead singer "Cyko Miko" Mike Muir, they were made famous nationally by their famous song Institutionalized, in which Mike declared: "All I wanted was Pepsi!"

Forgotten from the 1980s and early 1990s is the Parent's Music Resource Council (PMRC) and the the American Family Association (AFA) and the crusade against perceived obscenity in music.  These groups lead to the Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics stickers on "controversial" or "obscene" records.  One of the most famous records at the center of this controversy was As Nasty As They Wanna Be by 2Live Crew, but it was also applied to punk and rock music as well.

In 1990, Donahue hosted a show with 2 Live Crew, Jello Biafara from the Dead Kennedys, Wendy O. Williams from the Plasmatics, and Mike Muir from Suicidal Tendencies.  Below is part 1 of the Donahue episode on censorship.
