Several other football video games came out around 1989, when this shirt is copyrighted, but Tecmo Bowl was the only one licensed by the NFLP, now the NFLPA which stands for National Football League Players Association.

The original Tecmo Bowl was released in 1987 as an arcade cabinet but two years later it was adapted for the NES.
