This totally sweet tee from the 80s features Max Headroom. Max was a fictional TV personality meant to be an artificial intelligence unit. He was called the "first computer-generated television personality" however he was not computer-generated. The character was portrayed by actor Matt Frewer, who would later go on to play Doctor Leekie in the science fiction drama Orphan Black. In order to achieve Max's digital appearance Frewer was subjected to four and half hours worth of prosthetic make-up and was then placed in front of hand-drawn backgrounds. Max's iconic stuttering speech pattern was achieved using a harmonizer to help pitch his voice up or down at random as if he were an actual glitching computer program.

Max Headroom made his debut in the made for TV movie Max Headroom: 20 Minutes intro the Future. The British-made cyberpunk film provided a backstory for the eccentric character. A spin-off TV series was created and shown on British television in which Max originally served as a Veejay for music videos. The show's second season broadened the concept to include celebrity interviews and a studio audience. Another spin-off series was made for American television which followed a more dramatic story-driven plot based on the TV movie. This shirt is based off of a Coca-Cola ad starring the character and features the tag line "Catch the Wave".
