This cool vintage concert shirt is for the Celtic punk band Shane MacGowen and the Popes. The band was originally founded in 1992 and it was first fronted by Shane MacGowen of the Pogues. The group, which also featured Paul "Mad Dog" McGuinness and Tommy McManamon, served as MacGowen's backing band into the mid 2000s, right up until he reunited with The Pogues.
This iteration of the band managed to release two albums, The Snake in 1994 and The Crock of Gold in 1997. Their first album The Snake included a number of guests such as The Dubliners, Thin Lizzy, The Pogues, and actor Johnny Depp. Like many songs by The Pogues, The Popes' music often utilized traditional Irish tunes as a base melody.
In 1997, MacGowen also appeared on Lou Reed's "Perfect Day", which was covered by numerous artists for the BBC charity Children in Need. The song became the UK's number on single for three weeks and sold over a million copies.
