This amazing vintage sweatshirt celebrates the legendary "Queen of Tejano Music", Selena, and it recognizes her fifth studio album Dreaming of You. Selena is remembered as one of the most beloved and influential Latin artists of all time. Her bold fashion and performances made her a cultural icon, and her musical talents helped to bring Tejano music to the mainstream market.
Selena's singing career began when she was just a child, performing in her family's band Selena y Los Dinos. The group performed Tejano music with Selena as their star singer, despite the fact that the genre was primarily male-dominated. Many promoters claimed that Selena wouldn't have any success in the genre because she was a woman, but she proved them wrong, when her self-titled debut album made it on a national music chart. From there the Selena's success only grew, and she garnered multiple awards and accolades for her music.
Selena also ventured into fashion. Her unique and flashy outfits made her a style icon, and the singer began designing and manufacturing her own line of clothes, which was sold at her boutique, Selena Etc. Eventually the president of the singer's fan club, Yolanda Saldivar was appointed as the boutique manager, but she was dismissed after it was discovered she was embezzling money from both the fan club and the boutique. Saldivar would later be charged with the murder of Selena, after fatally shooting the young singer at a Days Inn Motel.
Dreaming of You was released after Selena's tragic death in 1995. Fans had been devastated by the loss of this cultural icon and they were eager to celebrate Selena with this final posthumous album. Dreaming of You was a huge critical and commercial success, debuting at the top of the Billboard 200. It was also, notably, the first predominately Spanish-language album to do so. The album sold a record breaking, 175,000 copies on its first day alone, the most for any female artist at the time. With a number of popular singles such as "I Could Fall In Love", "Techno Cumbia", "El Toro Relajo", and "I'm Getting Used to You", the album and its success perfectly exemplified Selena's talents and it cemented her status as a lengendary musical icon.
